Plums and Custard - Tricholomopsis rutilans

Tricholomopsis rutilans (Tricholomataceae) is a beautiful mushroom whose caps are 4 to 12cm in diameter, bright yellow and covered with radial streaks made up of tiny purple scales. The gills are egg-yolk-yellow, broad and crowded.

This species occurs in Britain, Ireland, mainland Europe and also in North America. Despite its very attractive appearance, Tricholomopsis rutilans is bitter and inedible.

Other common names: Strawberry Mushroom, Red-haired Agaric.
